Where have all the butterflies gone?

2014 07 21 Buddleia and a butterfly jpg sig
I’ve seen just ten butterflies ( not many) this year which includes this one on the Buddleia today and the five I just found in the loft room fluttering like autumn leaves in and around the sink up there. They were not there yesterday…. and they are not there now! Last seen heading towards the Buddleia!

  1. alas not here – sounds like your loft livers are hibernaters that are ahead or behind the seasons šŸ˜‰

  2. It’s a conspiracy…
Last year I asked the same question about ladybirds because I couldn’t remember the last time I had seen one… http://imgonnastudytherain.wordpress.com/2013/11/02/what-happened-to-all-the-ladybirds-ask-tennesseeas-in-the-state-not-as-in-williams-the-playwright/
But it seems now that they have changed tactics and went for the butterflies…
Next year it will be giraffes and flamingoes, where will it all end I ask you.
All I can do now is sit and worry, I let you know if there are any developments.

    1. Come to think of it, there aren’t too many ladybirds here either so far( I liked your ladybird clip, very detailed, close… Thanks). But I now have visions of giraffes and flamingoes leaving where ever they come from and turning up, eventually, to grace your lovely garden (… and eating your lilies ….. no no no!) So I will let you know if I get them turning up in the loft here first!

      1. It may be that the wet and windy winter conditions have affected their breeding. However it hasn’t affected a certain breed of persistent biting flies, which plague us every time we step outside for a walk or a sunbathe. Mind you, there are a lot of what I assume are Meadow Brown butterflies everywhere, but not on the buddleia…
