Dukes Diary Front Page Duke the talking Rooster has come all the way from  Turkey  at Uncle Spikes blog  and says…….

Yo Aunty Gill it’s me again, Duke-Cocka-Locky, your nephew from Türkiye.  After my last post, it was real exciting to see your bloggerising friends say nice things – that’s pretty cool for a young Number SPIKE 01Two rooster like me. So here I am again, writing to my favourite aunty about what is happening over here on the farm; after all, it’s a brand new year, even here, but something has changed, and I don’t like it…

Duke 01
It is winter here now Aunty Gill, and soooo cold I reckon my feathers are gonna stick together! I know what you’ll say, “Don’t be a wimp, rooster-up and grow a pair!” Well I have, lol – it’s part of my job description actually. Hey, you’ll never guess what fun I get up to, even as Number Two. I guess it’s not always true that girlie chooks always like the top boss (blush). See me – I’m under the orange tree, creeping up on the girls…
Duke 02
You once told me about your winters over there, so ok, I take your point, our sudden drop to maybe five degrees Celsius (41F in old egg money) at night is not what you’d call winter, but for us here in the sunny south of Turkey, that’s pretty darned brrrrr… Even the trees agree. I know, as my favourite apricot tree has panicked too, and is losing its leaves. Does that mean my feathers will fall out if it gets much colder??? Oh Aunty Gill, I don’t like this cold..!KONICA MINOLTA DIGITAL CAMERAAunty Gill. You can’t tell, but I’m typing this three days later than the last stuff I wrote above. That’s the trouble with kompewters, you can’t see the pen has changed. Anyway, I gotta tell you some really really good news Aunty Gill – there’s a girlie here called Miss Fluffy Bum. She’s my sister, err, sort of I guess, but we won’t go there. Anyway, she doesn’t like the cold, and I mean she seriously does NOT like it. BUT, and here’s the good bit, she seems to welcome my help for a little ‘warming up’ a bit more often than usual, or so I have just found out .

RESULT….!! It’s official Aunty Gill. I’ve changed my mind, I flippin’ LOVE the cold weather now !!!
Byeeee….

Love, your Rooster Nephew, Duke xxSPIKE 01

Thank you for your lovely letter………  A Miss Fluffy Bum heh! Ooo La! La ! Ask Spike for a bit of left over  Cranberry sauce.I am sure he must keep some in the kitchen. Ladies prefer a chicken with a bit of Cranberry sauce! Fluffy Bum would be well impressed.Looking forward to hearing from you  in February.

Love from Aunty Gill XXX …..I would never call you a wimp

Dukes Diary Front PageHi Duke the Rooster! Thank you for coming again. Hi People! Yes Duke has arrived again and he will be writing regularly here. He comes all the way from Uncle Spikes  farm in  TURKEY. You can see his lovely home here on this link:  Uncle Spikes blog

Yo Aunty Gill

It’s me, Duke-Cocka-Locky, your nephew from Turkey saying hello on your blog thingy, coz I’m a real 21st century bird; but ya know that already I guess. The other day you said that you missed me, and also that your blogging friends seemed interested in me. Now I find that very strange; I’m just a young rooster after all, not even a Number One yet. But I have decided to write every month to you, right the way through all of next year too. Farmer Spike even lent me an old laptop to use in the coop to write this – cool or what??

Duke 01 (1)

Won’t be long and it’ll be 2015 – Woo hoo!

I was wondering. Does it change where you are too Aunty Gill?? My reckoning is that as soon as it does change, I’m gonna be three years old, coz I know I was bornerised in 2013, but Farmer Spike says it doesn’t quite work like that. What does he know, eh? But then again, I was asking Bonzo the Farm Boss the other day, and he said he has grown by 9 years since I came along, 9 years…! Maybe Bonzo is just no good at sumz, but he seems like a clever dog, and Farmer Spike is always saying to him “Who’s a clever dog then, eh Bonzo?” I don’t know… my head hurts.

Duke 02 (1)

Anyway Aunty Gill, talking of Farmer Spike, he will start to chop lumps out the trees quite soon. I remember him doing that last winter time, and then he drags it from all over the farm and then they have a mega-big bonfire on the night that the New Year arrives. I don’t know what’s that all about, but to be honest, I’m as bit scared they’ll try and cook me, so I’ll make sure that I’m first into the coop that night, just you wait and see! What do you think Aunty Gill; have I got the right idea? Gosh, there are so many things to consider, now that I am getting older. I guess I’ll need to learn lots more stuff like that before I have a go at becoming a Number One rooster.

KONICA MINOLTA DIGITAL CAMERAI wonder what you will be doing for New Year Aunty Gill, and what your blogger friends will be doing too. Do you all stay tucked up in your coops like me, or become pretend fire-gods like Farmer Spike?

Byeeee….

Love, your Rooster Nephew, Duke xx

Uncle Spikes AdventuresTHE ORIGINAL DIARIES   Series ONE

Hi people! …. Meet Uncle Spike who writes a lively and informative blog about life on the Turkish farm where he lives with his family. (Press the camel for Uncle Spike’s lovely  blog or try the link at the end of the article to get an entertaining and delicious taste of Turkey!). Uncle Spike is the first person I started to follow (and  talk to) when I started blogging in October 2013. His talking birds are a regular feature here starting with Duke a rather gorgeous ‘Turkey bird’ ……..Uncle Spike holds the pen…….

Episode 1: Duke

‘Hello! I’m a Turkey from Chicken. No, no, no…. got that wrong, sorry about that. What I meant to say is that I’m a chicken, FROM Turkey, not a Turkey from…. well, you get the gist. But what you may not know is that Aunty Gill, a.k.a. your blogger friend, really is my aunty, coz she named me when I was younger. Yes, I’m the one and only “Duke-Cocka-Locky”, but often known simply as The Duke.

SPIKE 01

I’m a young(ish) rooster, hence the good looks, and I hold the rank of Number Two on our farm. I did try for promotion earlier this year, but after losing a bunch of feathers in a two hour tussle with Pablo (Number One), I have decided to bide my time before sneaking up on Pablo next year, and kickin’ his butt big time. Well, that’s the plan, but I need to grow a pair first, and workout more first, coz he’s a big bruiser, albeit an old bloke!
SPIKE 02

So yes, I’m definitely a chicken, and not a Turkey. But I do live in Turkey, although we call it Türkiye, and we have Hindi’s here, which you call Turkey’s – it’s all very confusing to be honest. I tried asking Bonzo, our farm dog, and chief protector, all about this, but he seems to be all brawn and no brain, a bit of a ‘himbo’ I reckon – he doesn’t know diddlysquat. I haven’t told him that to his face, but the guy is chained up, so I think I’m safe enough, haha…
SPIKE 03

I’m happy being a chicken though, not a Turkey, or even a Hindi. You see, as a ‘working rooster’, I get paid to spend ‘time with the ladies’; I’m not a chicken called ‘Soup’ you see – that’s the name Farmer Spike gives to the big roosters he keeps in the big pen; they are ALL called Soup, but not me, I’m The Duke! That’s me, on the right by the way: note how many ladies I have near me compared to Pablo – my time will come!!

SPIKE 04

Dunno if it’s true, but I heard through the bird vine that my  Aunty Gill and her friends scoff Turkey for lunch…! Yuk, imagine that? Not sure if it’s true, but I wouldn’t wanna be a Turkey, just in case, ya know, I was her favourite nephew for more than just my good looks and cool name. Hmm…
SPIKE 05

Thankfully we don’t have Thanksgiving or Christmas here, so I reckon I’m safe on that score, no matter if I’m a chicken OR a turkey.’

Next Diary will appear in the post roll on 20th December.   Duke  has kindly said that he will write regularly every month thereafter!!!

I’m “DUKE COCKA-LOCKY” !!

I named this fine bird!

Uncle Spike's Adventures

…THE RESULTS…

DSCF7171

With all the responses duly counted and verified by Bonzo the farm dog, Uncle Spike is very chuffed to announce the renaming of our young rooster. So without further ado, here are the results…

60%  DUKE COCKA-LOCKY (or DUKE)

21%  HENRY VIII

  5%  RAJ, WALLACE and AYAM

   2%  DON JUAN and BRIAN

   0%  CAZANOVA

.

So it’s…

GOODBYE “JIMMY”

and

HELLO “DUKE COCKA-LOCKY”

.

As the original suggestion for DUKE COCKA-LOCKY came from our very own Gill McGrath from the blog In touch with Emma, I think we can also now state that as well as being a Guest Blogger here, you are now the proud Aunty of a ten month year old Turkish rooster 🙂

.

Thanks for all the entries
