A Goldfinch arriving in the rain
The feeder has been out there for a month stuffed with thistle seed to attract the finches but there has not been a sign of interest from any bird ~ until yesterday. A goldfinch, in the middle of cold rain ! and today in a tiny piece of sun he brought a friend along….

caught making honey ~ while the sun shines
Raining. light on the dark edge. it’s cool.
on the hedge
sun gone. floating wingless….. over little trees.
nothing like mist
Strange is the mist
That has no face
That is
That was
That cannot be
Forever
That settles its breath
For miles
And cannot see
Where it was
Is going to be
Clinging to the mask
That will
Must
Break
Then rest in peace
Some other place

My little ode to the early morning mists which roll around over the river at the bottom of the hill carrying on upwards ~ defining the layers and dips beyond the ridge in turn revealing and masking the horizon~ only to disappear into the warmth of the rising sun.
