  1. better still Gill that tree has the gothic contortions of what could be a camperdown elm – a favourite of mine and of the Victorians.

    1. Yes I think you are right. I could go back and check the label. The tree has a jaunty shapely figure ( Buddha-like) clinging through the central trunk…. with wild hair!. The gardens are full of fascinating Victorian (and before that ) plantings.
