In swirling Dirndl
The Land now dressed
Rolled wrapped and pressed
In Aran knit
And Fair Isle stitch

Prelude

1 DSCN0166.JPG morning mist prelude.jpg sig
Last night
The evening blush
Promised early morning sun

Yet over there at break
The bird still sits
Hidden in a mist

And on the chimney hush
Another barely wakes

While the long legged watchman
On the roof
Quietly stares

Saw an early bird against a tiny patch of sky
~Picked red tomatoes ready washed in rain
Stacked garden chairs all wet and  sun lit baked
Picked cut some figs and ate~
Then the cloudless sky at sunset late
Moon purple climbing high…….

Now the morning wakes
to a silent chorus
bird song gone
the blackbird
sits
quietly
alone
without a care
while
just one
pigeon
in some far off tree
barely heard now
breaks into a moan ~ Gill McGrath© August 15

[ a silence fills the  first  morning air  now that territorial lines are less defined and bird families are mostly grown… although they still gather in large numbers all day, for the fast food waiting for them at their usual eating places]

why do pigeons moan?

Hey Robin…

Where have you been? (long time no see)
Over the hills and I’m back he said (looking through the window)
And it seems to me
Everything’s still in place….
The lines
The trees on the horizon
Gone
Swept up in the rain
Like mist
And birds
Like me
Still sit….
